Odell Beckham Jr. suggests turf to blame for Giants' Sterling Shepard suffering torn ACL

The turf at MetLife Stadium, home of the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets, has been a hot topic for years and was again discussed by football fans Monday night when Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard went down with a non-contact injury on the team's final offensive play from scrimmage in the 23-16 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Per Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Giants head coach Brian Daboll confirmed on Tuesday that Shepard suffered a torn ACL in his left knee. Even before Daboll announced the expected news, former Giants star wide receiver and current free agent Odell Beckham Jr. took to Twitter seemingly to blame a surface he used to play on during home games for Shepard's injury.

"Just get rid of it all the f-------- bro," Beckham tweeted about the turf, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. "Billions made off this game I can’t understand why we can’t play on grass. That s--- is rough. Prayers up for my brother. S--- just hurt my heart."

Beckham featured for the Giants from 2014 through the 2018 season and went down with a non-contact torn ACL on the artificial surface at SoFi Stadium playing for the Los Angeles Rams against the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI this past February.

As for Shepard, he was still working to fully return from the torn left Achilles he suffered last December. Per ESPN stats, the 29-year-old was leading the 2-1 Giants with 154 receiving yards across the season's first three games before this setback. He also had 13 catches and one touchdown.

Shepard accepted a pay cut to remain with Big Blue in March. His tenure with the organization and as an active NFL player, in general, is now very much up in the air.

The Giants will next host the 2-1 Chicago Bears at MetLife Stadium this Sunday.
