The NFL has announced that in a continuous effort to connect the game’s all-time greats with the next generation of stars, several legends of the game will announce picks for various clubs on Day 2 of the 2024 NFL draft.

Last year, the Kansas City Chiefs had their franchise father-son duo of Ed Budde and Brad Budde announce a draft pick. This year, they'll have one of the most dynamic offensive players in club history announcing pick No. 64 (Round 2) and Pick No. 95 (Round 3). That player is none other than former Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles, who retired from the NFL back in 2019.

A former third-round pick in the 2008 NFL draft, Charles played for 11 seasons in the league, including nine seasons with the Chiefs. He appeared in 103 games in Kansas City, recording 9,717 scrimmage yards, 63 total touchdowns, and a 5.5-yards-per-carry average. He remains the Chiefs franchise leader in career rushing yards, single-game rushing yards, as well as both season and career yards per carry.

Could Jamaal Charles announce a draft pick from his alma mater?

Charles' involvement in announcing draft picks could bring about a very fun scenario on Day 2 of the 2024 NFL draft. Several 2024 NFL draft prospects from his alma mater, The University of Texas, are projected to go in the second and third rounds of the draft. Players like RB Jonathon Brooks, DT T'Vondre Sweat, and TE Ja'Tavion Sanders could hear their names called by a Texas Longhorn legend.

Something that'd be particularly exciting? If Charles announced the selection of Brooks, given that he plays the same position. The Chiefs have done research on all three prospects, including top-30 visits with Brooks and Sweat, along with a combine formal interview with Sanders
