Oregon  has been one of the best college football programs in the last 20 years, and they have been able to put together many loaded rosters and high first-round NFL Draft picks, but one of the best players to walk out of Eugene was offensive tackle, Penei Sewell

Penei Sewell Was One Of The Best Tackles In College Football History

When Sewell walked onto campus as a freshman in 2018, it didn’t take long for him to get put into the starting role, and at 18, he became one of the most dominant offensive tackles in the country.

Sewell would keep up his dominance into his sophomore season, taking home every honor you can think of; he still had another season before he could enter the NFL Draft, and everyone was looking forward to a junior season that could’ve been the best in college football history.

Sewell never saw his junior year because he opted out due to COVID-19, and without even playing a game in 2020, he was still selected as the seventh overall player in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Sewell Helped Turned The Lions Into A Winner

The Lions have been known as one of worst franchises in NFL history, and 2021, they were heading into a new era of football with new head coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes. Campbell and Holmes couldn’t have drafted anyone better than Sewell to be their first pick ever as the new head coach/general manager for the Lions, and three years later, Sewell helped take the Lions to the NFC Championship Game, where they would fall to the San Francisco 49ers.

Even though the Lions didn’t win the game, it was still one great season, and they will be looking to do even better in 2024 on Wednesday, one day before the NFL Draft. The Lions locked up their player best for the future.

Oregon Helped Turned Sewell Into One Of The Best Players In The NFL

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Lions are giving Penei Sewell a four-year $112 million deal, the largest given to an offensive lineman.

What an incredible accomplishment for the former Oregon Duck. Sewell is showing the world why Oregon has one of the best football programs in the country. If you want to play at the NFL level, Oregon sets you up for the future.
