Packers CEO says 'Aaron Rodgers will be back' next season: 'We're not idiots'

Could Aaron Rodgers have played his last game as a Green Bay Packer? Absolutely not, at least according to Packers CEO Mark Murphy.

"We're not idiots. Aaron Rodgers will be back. He's our leader," Murphy told The 5th Quarter on WNFL.

Rodgers is under contract for the next three seasons in Green Bay, but there are rumors floating around that he may want to move on from the Packers, especially following his somewhat ominous statement about his future with the team following a loss to the Buccaneers in the NFC Championship Game.

Of course, it's worth noting that Rodgers' noncommittal attitude towards Green Bay may have less to do with his desire to leave and more to do with him wondering if the team is ready to move on from him. After all, the Packers traded up in the first round of last year's draft to take quarterback Jordan Love and in the modern NFL, first-round rookie quarterbacks typically don't sit on the bench for too long.

But Murphy's statement seems to make it clear that the Packers are committed to keeping Rodgers in Green Bay for the long haul, which should not be too surprising, considering that the 37-year-old is poised to win his third career MVP award and nearly led Green Bay to the second Super Bowl of his career.

So what will it take to keep Rodgers on the Packers? According to a source, Rodgers is looking to get a new deal that would make him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.
