Packers expected to hire Rich Bisaccia as special teams coach

The Green Bay Packers are expected to hire former Las Vegas Raiders interim head coach Rich Bisaccia as their new special teams coach, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Monday.

Bisaccia was a finalist for a handful of head coaching jobs following the 2021 regular season, including a bid to stay with Las Vegas after leading the Silver and Black to a 7-5 record and a playoff berth following Jon Gruden's departure.

Special teams is Bisaccia's bread and butter, however, as he served as coordinator for the Cowboys, Buccaneers, and Chargers prior to joining the Raiders' coaching staff in 2018.

Landing a highly-respected special teams guru like Bisaccia is great news for the Packers, who fired previous coordinator Maurice Drayton after just one season after Green Bay had the league's worst special teams. Special teams cost the Packers dearly against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round of the playoffs as they had both a field goal and a punt blocked, the latter being returned for a touchdown, en route to losing 13-10.

The Raiders hired former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as their new head coach last week.
