Packers GM Brian Gutekunst says he's not getting calls about QB Aaron Rodgers

It was learned on Feb. 18 that the Green Bay Packers had allegedly "shown zero interest" in trading quarterback and recently-named four-time NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers as of that time, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday the two sides were at least talking about a potential short-term deal.

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst, who was supposedly "in a really good place" with Rodgers in late January but said last week he never promised to trade the signal-caller after the 2020 season, told reporters Tuesday he hasn't received a call from "a single person" about the services of the future Hall of Famer this winter.

Per Rob Demovsky of ESPN, Gutekunst added he "would hope" to have a better idea about Rodgers' intentions for the 2022 campaign before free agency opens on March 16.

"That's obviously the start of the new league year," Gutekunst explained. "There's a lot of decisions that have to be made before that. So that would be helpful. I would think we would know something before then."

Demovsky also notes that Packers vice president of football operations Russ Ball has held contract talks with Rodgers' agent, David Dunn, but it's unknown where the parties stand regarding such negotiations.

Meanwhile, Gutekunst suggested the Packers could use the franchise tag to retain the services of All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams if they don't sign him to an extension before March 8 regardless of Rodgers' plans.

"We were lucky to have them and hopefully able to have them both moving forward. But they're separate," Gutekunst said of that star pairing.
