Packers GM shoots down Aaron Rodgers trade rumors

In the immediate aftermath of the Green Bay Packers selecting Utah State quarterback Jordan Love with the 26th overall pick, there was speculation that Aaron Rodgers may be on the move.

The Packers, who traded up in the first round, are preparing for life without Rodgers, but that doesn't mean anything is going to change within the next couple of years. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst shot down any trade speculation regarding Rodgers ... so the "Rodgers to the Patriots" rumors can settle down now.

"Aaron's been around a long time and knows what we're playing for right now," Gutekunst said Thursday night on a conference call, according to Packers.com writer Mike Spofford. "We have the best quarterback in the National Football League and we plan to have him for a while competing for championships.

"I think he'll be a pro's pro. He's playing for legacy-type things, historic-type stuff. I know he's very, very motivated."

So, it looks like Rodgers will be set to train Love after all, and maybe the Utah State product will be ready to take over once Rodgers retires.

Love is the first quarterback taken in the first round by the Packers since they selected Rodgers in 2005 as Brett Favre's successor.

While Rodgers may not necessarily like the move made by Green Bay, the Packers can still add some offensive talent for Rodgers to work with in later rounds. Green Bay has eight more picks in 2020 draft, so they're bound to get some solid players.
