Packers HC Matt LaFleur 'can't fathom' Aaron Rodgers leaving Green Bay

Aaron Rodgers reportedly wants out of Green Bay, and Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said he "can't fathom" the idea that the reigning MVP not being in Green Bay.

"Yeah, I know, and I can't even take my brain to that spot right now," LaFleur said Saturday following the conclusion of the NFL draft, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky. "So I just want to do everything in my power to ensure that doesn't happen.

"I can't fathom [him] not being in Green Bay. That's where my mind's at. I don't only love the player, but I love the person. I love working with him on a daily basis; I think we all do -- from the players in that locker room to the coaching staff. Again, I don't even want to let my mind go there."

Rodgers is reportedly unhappy with the franchise and won't return unless general manager Brian Gutekunst is fired. His frustration began when Gutekunst opted to select Jordan Love in last year's draft.

Packers president Mark Murphy confirmed the rift between the two sides on Saturday and NBC's Mike Tirico had an off-camera discussion with Rodgers at the Kentucky Derby in which the veteran quarterback expressed disappointment that the news had been made public.

Green Bay does not want to trade Rodgers, but he could force a move by skipping offseason workouts, training camp and even potentially retiring.

At this point, the Packers could enter the 2021 campaign with Love as their starter, which wouldn't be ideal after he served as the third-string quarterback last season.
