The Green Bay Packers offense did well on Sunday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers played competently for most of the game, although he had a couple of bad interceptions.
When head coach Matt LaFleur called in Jordan Love to relieve an injured Rodgers, Love led the Packers to ten points on two must-score drives in his two series.
Love hit rookie wide receiver, Christian Watson, for a 63-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Love’s play seemed to excite the offense and Packers fans on social media.
However, the Packers’ defense played a historically bad game. Love didn’t have a chance to lead a game-tying drive. The Packers now fall to a 4-8 record before playing the Chicago Bears in Week 13.
The playoffs are a mathematical possibility but still a long shot.
LaFleur will need to decide where Rodgers’ health is while he weighs the Packers’ future this season and next with Love still on the team.
LaFleur was asked after the game if he had plans to shut down Rodgers for the season. According to Zach Jacobson with CBS Sports, LaFleur expects Rodgers to start as long as he can play.
The Packers aren’t going to the playoffs this season. Rodgers is a future Hall of Fame quarterback. But he’s not going to win a third straight NFL MVP title this season.
Rodgers’ thumb isn’t going to stop being broken soon. The Packers owe it to a former first-round draft pick and their team to start Love for a few games this season.
They have a young rookie trio of wide receivers who should have a chance to get regular-season reps in order to build chemistry for next season.
The Packers can decide if they want to trade Rodgers or Love in the offseason. But stubbornly putting out Rodgers for the rest of the season doesn’t do the Packers much good.
