Packers head coach Matt LaFleur tells Jordan Love to 'prepare like you're the starter'

Jordan Love could very well be the Green Bay Packers' starting quarterback in 2021, and head coach Matt LaFleur is telling him to be ready.

As the second-year quarterback left for summer break, LaFleur told him to continue preparing to be the starter this season.

"It's the same message it's been all the time is you're only one play away," LaFleur said, according to Rob Reishcel of Forbes. "So you always have to prepare like you're the starter. And just to be very intentional about the work that you put in, to go out there with a purpose."

The Packers wrapped up minicamp on Thursday, and now they'll wait to see what the future holds for reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers, who has made it known he doesn't want to return to Green Bay.

The Packers are adamant about not trading Rodgers, and the veteran signal-caller reportedly maintains that he won't return unless general manager Brian Gutekunst is fired. If the standoff continues, Green Bay could very well enter the 2021 season with Love as its starter.

The young quarterback has made plenty of progress this offseason, and LaFleur appears confident Love will rise to the challenge if need be.

"I think he's done a great job of embracing just the whole situation, embracing learning from every rep," LaFleur said. "One thing we talked about after Tuesday's practice is, 'Hey man, you're going to have some great days and you're going to have some days that aren't as great. And you've got to be able to ride that wave. You're never too high, you're never too low and just making sure that you learn from each and every rep.' And I think he's done a really good job of that."
