Packers insider reveals why there's a chance Jordan Love will request a trade

This whole NFL offseason has been a "will he, won't he" saga regarding Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. Will he retire or request a trade, or will he come back to the Packers for his 19th NFL season?

It's certainly a topic of conversation, but it seems like former first-round pick Jordan Love's future has not nearly been talked about as much. He's not a four-time MVP and future Hall of Famer (yet), so that makes sense. He's just not the ratings draw that Rodgers is.

Still, Love could very well be the future of one of the most historic and notable franchises in sports. He could also be a bust. There's a third option, though, and it's one that has barely been thrown around at this point.

Per Green Bay insider Matt Schneidman of "The Athletic", Love's future could feature a trade request — and not one involving Rodgers but rather him. Discussing the quarterback stability of the Packers, here's what Schneidman had to say.

"How active the Packers will be in addressing the quarterback position is up in the air as everyone waits for the Aaron Rodgers situation to sort itself out. They might need a new backup quarterback regardless of what happens with Rodgers. Their starter will either be Rodgers or Jordan Love. If Rodgers starts, there’s a chance Love will request a trade and the Packers grant it. If Love starts, that means Rodgers isn’t on the team anymore."

It makes sense that Love would ask for a trade if Rodgers runs it back with the Pack. He was considered one of the more intriguing quarterbacks in his draft class. The Packers presumably took him No. 26 overall — and traded up for him, mind you — because they believe he can be a more-than-capable starting NFL quarterback.

One more year of Rodgers would be one more year of Love not being able to prove himself, so why not ask out at that point?

The vibes toward Love appear to be positive in Green Bay, though, and the organization seems to be confident in him. There's certainly wisdom in running it back with Rodgers, an MVP-level quarterback. If the Packers can trade him and get some valuable pieces in return while seeing what they have for the future in Love, perhaps that's the best-case scenario for Green Bay.

For now, though, everything hinges on the man in the dark
