Packers' Jaire Alexander: Vikings' Justin Jefferson had 'fluke' game in Week 1

Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander may have gifted some bulletin-board material to Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson on Thursday.

"You've just got to be real: He don't jump in no super suit and get dressed and jump outside, you hear me?" Alexander said when speaking about Jefferson, as shared by Rob Demovsky of ESPN. "I don't either, sometimes. But he [is] human, is what I'm saying. We ain't putting too much on nobody.

"He's a really good receiver. But at the end of the day, I'm a really good corner. We've got really good corners, we've got really good linebackers, D-line, whatever it is. You don't want to put too much focus on that one person because it's like, the first game, that was a fluke."

Alexander was referencing how Jefferson tallied nine catches for 184 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 1 23-7 victory over the Packers back on Sept. 11. Since that time, the Vikings have accumulated an overall record of 12-3 and claimed the NFC North title. Meanwhile, 7-8 Green Bay remains alive in the playoff picture but could require two wins and some help to have a shot at making the postseason tournament.

Jefferson may not wear a so-called "super suit" on Sundays, but that doesn't mean Alexander or any other opponent should tug on the 23-year-old's figurative cape. According to ESPN, Jefferson leads the NFL heading into Week 17 with 123 catches and 1,756 receiving yards on the season. He is tied for fifth with eight receiving touchdowns.

Per OddsChecker, sportsbooks listed Jefferson fifth among betting favorites to earn Most Valuable Player honors as of early Thursday evening. Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs was the runaway favorite to win the award at that time.
