Packers' Jordan Love has 'a long way to go' as Aaron Rodgers rumors continue to swirl?

Amid rumors that future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers may be attempting to orchestrate an exit from Green Bay, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport explained during this year's NFL Draft that at least some people within the organization believe backup and 2020 rookie Jordan Love could take over as the club's QB1 as soon as September.

However, that may not be the case.

“He’s got a long way to go,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said of Love following the first round of last month's draft, per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. "But we’re ecstatic for his development.

"Obviously we think the world of Jordan and where he’s going to grow and develop. I think it’s pretty early to be able to tell you that because obviously with no preseason games last year and just kind of the no-spring, but we have a lot of confidence in his talents, in his work ethic and where he’s going to go. But it’s a little early for that."

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk added that some Green Bay players have said they "haven’t seen enough from Love to make them think he’s ready to go."

Love still hasn't taken a meaningful snap as a member of the Packers, and all signs indicate he is not yet prepared to replace a reigning Most Valuable Player who is performing as well as ever and who has guided the team to back-to-back conference championship games. Logic suggests the Packers will offer Rodgers a contract extension he allegedly desires, but he could use this supposed lack of confidence in Love as leverage in negotiations.
