Packers' Jordan Love misses practice again, will get 'every opportunity' to play vs. Jets

The Green Bay Packers re-signed backup quarterback Jake Dolegala on Tuesday as Jordan Love continues to recover from the shoulder injury he suffered in this past Saturday's preseason game against the Houston Texans.

Starter Aaron Rodgers won't take the field in exhibition contests, and Love was once again held out as the Packers participated in their first joint practice with the New York Jets on Wednesday ahead of Saturday's showdown between the clubs. Per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, though, Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters he and his staff intend to give Love "every opportunity" to play against the Jets this weekend.

However, LaFleur added the Packers "don’t want to put him in a situation to make it worse."

Kurt Benkert would start under center for the Packers against the Jets if that game happened today, and Benkert and Dolegala are familiar enough with the Green Bay offense to lead their teammates on drives during a meaningless contest. The Packers end the preseason on Aug. 28 at the Buffalo Bills, so there's still plenty of time for Love to get reps versus a live defense this month.
