Packers QB Aaron Rodgers basically confirms that his thumb is broken

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers obviously hasn't been right this season. Some have attributed it to his age while others may think the Packers are just having an off year in general. They are 4-7 after all and have lost six of their last seven games.

There is that small issue about the thumb injury Rodgers has been nursing for most of this season, though. Perhaps Rodgers' inaccuracies and balls thrown in the dirt could be because his thumb is worse than what he's been leading on.

Speaking to his good buddy Pat McAfee, Rodgers basically confirmed without confirming that his thumb is broken.

With that said, it's not like the four-time MVP is using his thumb, broken or not, as an excuse. He's played poorly this season, with seven interceptions and a QBR that's near the bottom of the league (41.8, which is 26th worst in the NFL).

Sure, that could be why he hasn't been the Aaron Rodgers that we've seen over his past two MVP seasons, but the future Hall of Famer isn't looking to hand wave (pun intended) his bad play away and blame it on the injury.

“My thumb is what it is. It’s been an issue since the Giants, but it’s not an issue that I’m going to rely on for an excuse or need,” Rodgers said on the McAfee show, per Zach Kruse.

If Rodgers really thinks he can up his level of play and that the thumb won't hinder him, he'll basically have one last chance to show it on Sunday Night Football. His Packers play the 9-1 Philadelphia Eagles and another loss will all but mathematically eliminate Green Bay from playoff contention.
