Packers QB Aaron Rodgers wouldn't miss a game after having toe surgery?

NFL Media reported Monday that Green Bay Packers starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers would not be having surgery "at this time" to repair the fractured pinky toe he's played through over the past three games, including this past Sunday's 36-28 win over the Los Angeles Rams that improved the Packers to 9-3 ahead of their bye week.

As the report suggested, the reigning NFL Most Valuable Player hasn't completely ruled out going under the knife ahead of facing the Chicago Bears on Dec. 12.

"As compared this Monday to last Monday, I definitely felt better — same with this Tuesday to last Tuesday," Rodgers explained during his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "So I’ll just keep getting treatment. We’re hoping to avoid surgery, obviously, but the surgery would be such a minor one it wouldn’t be something that I’d have to miss time with. That’s a prerequisite for any surgery that I have at this point — I’m not going to miss any time. So we’ll re-assess early next week and make a decision. But it’s not something where [I’d miss time]. I could have surgery on a Monday or Tuesday and play on Sunday."

Rodgers added a procedure "would immobilize the toe," and that's a big reason "the ultimate goal [is] to not have to do surgery." He and the Packers will reexamine the issue later this week and early next week before making a final decision.

The Packers have won two of three games since Rodgers suffered the injury while isolating away from the team after he tested positive for COVID-19. He completed 28-of-45 passes for 307 yards and two touchdowns with an additional rushing score in the victory over the Rams.
