Packers QB Jordan Love offers ominous response when questioned if he'll ask for a trade

While Jordan Love has patiently waited his turn for a chance to unseat Aaron Rodgers as the Packers starting quarterback, it may be time that forces Green Bay’s hand.

While Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst was likely planning for life after Rodgers to come sooner rather than later when he drafted Love 26th overall in 2020, the 24-year-old may look to move on if Rodgers plays out the three-year, $150 million contract he signed in March.

“We’ll see,” Love told ESPN’s Rob Demovsky regarding possibly asking for a trade. “I would obviously be in the fourth year of my contract, and it would be the team’s possibility of picking up my fifth year. It’s really on them to see what kind of moves they want to make, what they want to do with the future.”

Love has played in just eight games over the last three seasons, starting once in 2021. He’s completed 42 of his 71 career pass attempts for 484 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions.

After not seeing the field in 2020, Love played 34 percent of Green Bay’s offensive snaps (131) in 2021, and seven percent of the team’s offensive snaps (9) this year.

With a 27-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans Thursday night at Lambeau Field, the Packers fell to 4-7 and they sit four games back of the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North. They’re also a game and a half out of the final wild-card spot.

Should the Packers fall out of playoff contention, it might behoove Green Bay to take an extended look at Love down the stretch.
