The Green Bay Packers are keeping one of their own right before free agency. Minutes before the legal negotiation period begins on Monday, the team reached an agreement to keep tight end Tyler Davis. ESPNs' Rob Demovsky first reported the move.
A former sixth-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars, he also spent some time with the Indianapolis Colts. The Packers initially signed Davis in 2021, getting him from the Colts' practice squad.
After a tough preseason in 2022, the Packers decided to keep him, mostly as a special teamer. His role was expected to be bigger in 2023, but an ACL injury prevented him from playing.
In two seasons before that, he had eight receptions for 61 yards. Davis played 174 offensive snaps and 346 special teams snaps for Green Bay in 2022.
According to Tom Silvertein, from Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Packers are also interested in re-signing cornerback and kickoff returner Keisean Nixon and linebacker Eric Wilson, both important special teams pieces as well.
