The Green Bay Packers are releasing running back James Robinson from the practice squad after three weeks with the team, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. Robinson, who led the Jacksonville Jaguars’ rushing attack two seasons ago in 2021, initially signed with Green Bay heading into Week 7 for some additional depth. He did not appear in a game prior to his release.

Earlier this year, the running back signed with the New York Giants for $1.01 million amid Saquon Barkley‘s holdout. The team opted to waive him before the start of the regular season slate, however. After refusing to sign a fully guaranteed deal for $10.1 million on a one-year franchise tag for the Giants, Barkley ended up agreeing to a sum of “up to” $11 million.

James Robinson started the 2022 season with the Jaguars, playing seven games, before they traded him to the New York Jets. While with the Jets, he had 85 yards on 29 carries in four games. He then signed a two-year deal for $4 million with the New England Patriots when the free agency window opened in March, but they released him in June.

An undrafted free agent out of Illinois State, Robinson has 514 career carries so far in the NFL. He’s racked up 2,262 yards with 18 touchdowns over three seasons.

The Packers are gearing up to face the Pittsburgh Steelers this week following a 20-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
