Green Bay Packers WR Christian Watson Milwaukee Journal Sentinel-USA TODAY Sports

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson is fast

In Week 1, Christian Watson showed blazing speed in his NFL debut against the Minnesota Vikings. Watson almost used his quickness to get into the end zone on his first target, but the Packers rookie dropped what would have been an unforgettable moment.

After that play, Watson flashed signs that he can be an excellent wide receiver during the game. Watson finished the game with two receptions for 34 yards. He also made an appearance in the Packers run game. Watson rushed for seven yards on his only carry for the Packers.

It was an impressive run for the North Dakota State University product. According to Next Gen Stats, Watson has the fourth fastest maximum speed by a ball carrier this season. Watson reached a top speed of 20.82 miles per hour during his seven-yard rush against the Vikings.

Good things will come for Watson

The Green Bay Packers spent significant draft capital on Watson. Watson is expected to be essential to the team’s offense going forward. His first drop of the season was terrible, but eventually, he’ll regain trust with quarterback Aaron Rodgers to receive more targets.

Watson is too explosive of a player for the Packers to use as a decoy. His speed can change the dynamic of any game he’s in. He showed that on Sunday but needed his hands to adjust to the NFL. That comes with time. Remember, Watson didn’t play a single game in the preseason.

It took a second for Ja’Marr Chase to get up to speed with catching in the NFL. He went on to have a thrilling rookie campaign for the Cincinnati Bengals. Watson might not finish as the Offensive Rookie of the Year, but he can produce better numbers than in Week 1.
