Packers, star CB Jaire Alexander agree to four-year, $84M extension

The Green Bay Packers made a Jaire Alexander a wealthy man on Monday, signing the Pro-Bowl cornerback to a four-year contract extension worth $84 million.

Alexander's agent, John Thornton, confirmed the deal to ESPN Adam Schefter.

Under the new deal, Alexander will average about $21 million a year, which sets a record for defensive backs. It also ties the 25-year-old to Green Bay through 2026.

The Louisville product played in just four games last season because of a shoulder injury, but the Packers clearly still see him as a big piece of their future plans. Even though Alexander could have played the upcoming season on the fifth year of his rookie contract, Green Bay already had plans to ink him to a long-term deal.

"He's such a big part of what we're doing, he's been such a good player for us since the day he kind of arrived," Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said earlier this offseason, via ESPN.
