The Green Bay Packers shocked the world, trading up in the draft to take quarterback Jordan Love when they already have a perfectly qualified player in Aaron Rodgers. USA TODAY Sports

Packers were reportedly 'adamant' about drafting Jordan Love

It seemed rather odd that the Green Bay Packers moved up in the 2020 NFL Draft to select Utah State quarterback Jordan Love, especially considering they have a very capable quarterback in Aaron Rodgers.
But according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Packers were reportedly adamant about moving up and selecting a quarterback, particularly Love.

“They were adamant about getting a quarterback, it’s not just like well if one fell to them they were going to — no, the Packers wanted Jordan Love,” Rapoport said. “So much so, they actually had deals late in the first round to move up with the Seahawks. That obviously ended up not being necessary because they moved up ahead of them and ended up taking Jordan Love."

The Packers are preparing for the future, whether Rodgers likes it or not. Love will likely train under Rodgers for a few years before taking the reins of the offense.

Rodgers shouldn't be too concerned with Love taking over his position, especially when Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said the 36-year-old isn't going anywhere any time soon.

It's really not surprising that Green Bay wanted to add a quarterback, especially considering Rodgers is aging and has injury issues.

Preparing for the future begins at QB, and now the Packers have their guy.
