NFL General Managers are always mining for gold. In a business where there are no off days, the Green Bay Packers are bringing in free agent linebacker Marvin Pierre for a visit.

The news of the workout was first reported by Aaron Wilson. (@AaronWilson_NFL)

Pierre is an undrafted free agent that came out of Kent State for the 2023 draft.

He was with the Arizona Cardinals earlier this offseason, but was released on June 8 after the team was awarded a waiver claim for cornerback Kyler McMichael.

He was selected by the Houston Roughnecks in the XFL Draft this past June to play for former Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Wade Phillips.

Pierre measures in at 6'1 221 lbs, and was a graduate transfer to Kent State after playing at Murray State.

He had a productive final season at Kent State.

Pierre registered 96 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. He also added two forced fumbles.

The highlight of his final season was an interception he returned for a touchdown against Bowling Green in a 40-6 victory for the Golden Flashes.

The Packers have Quay Walker set to start at linebacker next to De'Vondre Campbell.

Campbell is battling through an ankle injury that Brian Gutekunst doesn't believe will affect his status for the first week of the regular season.

Isaiah McDuffie has been solid. Behind them, however, the Packers could use some depth. Tariq Carpenter is mostly a special teamer and going through a position change.

Eric Wilson is also mostly around for special teams.

Workouts can mean a lot of things this time of year.

Where this one leads to remains to be seen.
