Packers WR Juwann Winfree looking for breakout season in 2022

The Green Bay Packers will be looking for plenty of help from unlikely sources as they move into a season without All-Pro receiver Davante Adams and deep threat Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

The team did add free agent receiver Sammy Watkins along with three rookies in April's NFL Draft. Veterans Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard are also back for another season. But the group that will be catching passes from future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers is going to need every ounce of production that they can find. An unlikely, yet talented, receiver who could help the Green Bay passing attack is Juwann Winfree.

After being drafted in the sixth round by the Denver Broncos in 2019, Winfree played in just three games as a rookie while registering zero receptions. The Packers would sign the former Colorado Buffalo to their practice squad in 2020. He played in just two games that season and caught zero passes.

In 2021, Winfree finally got an opportunity to play a role for the Packers. In Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals, the Packers offense was without Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Allen Lazard due to either injury or COVID. Winfree stepped in and caught four passes for 30 yards in the team's victory. The New Jersey native caught a total of eight passes for 58 yards in his seven games in 2021.

Looking at 2022, Winfree will have to fight for a spot on the 53-man roster. He will be competing with the likes of Malik Taylor, Danny Davis and Samori Toure for one of those final receiver spots. Winfree has the ability to be successful and have a career year with the Packers this year. Standing at 6-3 and weighing 215 pounds, he has 4.4 speed. His footwork is impressive too. If No. 88 can fight his way onto the active roster and earn the trust of Aaron Rodgers, he is going to have far and away his best season yet.
