Pair of division rivals listed as favorites to land Derrick Henry
Buffalo and Miami's division rivalry has the chance to spread off the field this offseason, as the two teams have emerged as the favorites to land Titans running back Derrick Henry, according to OddsChecker.
Henry is available in trade talks, per the San Francisco Chronicles' Michael Silver.
The Bills (+300) are the favorites to trade for Henry while the Dolphins sit directly behind them at +400.
Shopping Henry doesn't exactly mesh with what Titans general manager Ran Carthon recently told reporters when he said good teams "play tough defense and run the football." In the context of Tennessee's position in the division, however, it does make sense.
After this offseason, it's possible the starting QBs in the AFC South will be Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Trevor Lawrence and Ryan Tannehill. By Tennessee trading its best offensive player in Henry, it would gather assets for the future and likely increase the value of its own 2024 first-round pick.
A youth movement is sweeping the division at quarterback and the Titans could catch up next offseason by landing a top 2024 prospect such as Caleb Williams or Drake Maye.
Henry, 29, ran for 1,538 yards in 2022, his third season with at least 1,500 rushing yards. He has 1,750 career rush attempts and is getting to the age we've seen running backs begin to decline.
Henry's averaged 312.3 rush attempts the past four seasons and should see a diminished role if he lands at a new home, if only for the sake of his longevity. There's little reason to believe he can't be a valuable asset for a team like the Bills or Dolphins, one that puts an emphasis on the passing game.
The Giants (+500) have the third-best odds of being Henry's next team and could be an option if they aren't able to agree to a new contract with running back Saquon Barkley.
Baltimore (+600) and New Orleans (+700) round out the top five.
The Ravens should be more concerned about getting Lamar Jackson signed and then help at wide receiver while the Saints only make sense because trading for Henry would fit how the team operates.
Buffalo and Miami are the obvious choices, as both have a need for running back depth and neither would ask as much of Henry as Tennessee did.
He's still a valuable asset and after the AFC East rivals played in a tight 34-31 Bills win in the wild-card round, Henry could tip the scales the next time they meet.
