Justin Houston Jessica Rapfogel-USA TODAY Sports

Even with less than a week to go before their preseason opener, the Carolina Panthers continue to add.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Sunday that the Panthers have signed Justin Houston in free agency. Carolina is giving a one-year deal to the veteran outside linebacker Houston.

Houston is a pretty notable name as a four-time Pro Bowler and ex-All-Pro. Even at 34 years old now, Houston is still a ferocious pass rusher. He logged 9.5 sacks in 14 games last season for the Baltimore Ravens as effectively a second-stringer (though Houston had a real “c’mon man” moment on the final day of the regular season).

Expectations should be tempered for Houston in his 13th NFL season. But the Panthers could use another impact veteran, particularly with Marquis Haynes Sr. currently ailing in training camp with a back injury. This is not the only prominent addition that Carolina has made to their front seven in recent days either.
