The Carolina Panthers had an interesting situation heading into their game against the Detroit Lions on Saturday.

Before the game started, the team was looking to bulk up their roster.

However, a player that they claimed off waivers never reported to the Panthers this weekend.

So which NFL player was it who didn’t report for the Panthers before their Saturday afternoon game?

Former Bears Cornerback Doesn’t Report To Panthers

Joe Person reports on Twitter how the Panthers had gotten former Chicago Bears cornerback Justin Layne off waivers.

However, he never came to Carolina to report, forcing the Panthers to place him on the “did not report” list Friday.

It is unknown why Layne didn’t report to the Panthers, as he’s been on two different teams already this season.

The former Michigan State standout has played in nine games this season, with seven as a member of the New York Giants.

While he was on the roster for the Bears, he was a special teams player and only saw action in two games.

However, with him not reporting, the Panthers still have his rights if he plays this season.

The move put the Panthers at 51 players heading into their game against the Lions on Saturday.

While they could have Layne for their next game, it’s still a looming question why he didn’t report.

If it was weather related, he might play this season for the Panthers.

But if it wasn’t, his 2022 season might be over just as the Panthers try to win the NFC South division.
