Running back Spencer Brown is being let go by the Carolina Panthers, as first reported by Joe Person of The Athletic.

Brown was someone who many felt had a chance of making the team's 53-man roster after putting together a strong training camp and preseason where he rushed for 111 yards on 31 carries and a touchdown while reeling in five receptions for 20 yards.

Considering Laviska Shenault Jr. is being viewed as a hybrid receiver/running back, the Panthers opted to not carry a fourth running back on the roster. Miles Sanders and Chuba Hubbard have dealt with injuries this preseason but the expectation is that they should be ready for the start of the season.

If Brown clears waivers, he should end up on the Panthers' practice squad.
