Panthers sign WR D.J. Moore to four-year, $61.9M contract extension

The Carolina Panthers announced on Friday afternoon that they'll be hanging onto one of the best wide receivers in franchise history through the mid-2020s.

Despite being just 24 years old, Moore has already become one of the more consistent receivers in the NFL and is on pace to continue climbing the Panthers' record books.

Moore was selected by Carolina with the 24th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and had a productive rookie campaign, finishing with 55 receptions for 788 yards and two touchdowns on 82 targets. The targets, receptions and receiving yards totals in his first year were second on the team only to running back Christian McCaffrey.

The Maryland product was again second to just McCaffrey in targets (135) and receptions (87) in 2019, but led all Panthers players in receiving yards (1,175) that season while scoring four touchdowns as well. In 2020, with the All-Pro running back limited to three games due to injury, Moore paced Carolina in receiving touchdowns (four) and a career-high 1,193 receiving yards as well.

Last year, the Philadelphia native recorded his highest marks in targets (163) and receptions (93), while leading the squad in receiving yards (1,157) for the third straight campaign and scoring four touchdowns for the third consecutive year as well. Buffalo Bills Pro Bowl wideout Stefon Diggs is the only player other than Moore to post more than 1,100 receiving yards in each of the last three seasons.

With his 4,313 career receiving yards, Moore trails Steve Smith Sr. (12,197), Muhsin Muhammad (9,255) and Greg Olsen (6,463) on the team's all-time list.
