Patriots' Bill Belichick: 'Definitely an interesting group' of QBs in 2021 NFL Draft

The New England Patriots currently have 2020 flop Cam Newton and unproven commodity Jarrett Stidham on the roster at the quarterback position and, thus, understandably continue to be linked with to-be rookie signal-callers in mock drafts. Chris Trapasso and Pete Prisco of CBS Sports predict Bill Belichick will select Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Mac Jones in the draft's first round, while ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. has New England trading up for Ohio State Buckeyes product Justin Fields in his latest mock.

Belichick spoke about the QBs in the draft class during a Thursday press conference but, unsurprisingly didn't offer much insight into what he may be thinking ahead of the player-selection process that opens April 29.

"It’s definitely an interesting group," he said of potential future starting QBs, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. The future Hall of Famer added that just about everything, including "overdrafting" or trading up for a QB, is on the table at this stage of the process. He answered there are "a lot of ways to do it" when asked what he is looking for in the team's next franchise player at the sport's most important position.

"Fields had an up-and-down 2020 season, but he can be a star if he becomes more consistent," Kiper wrote in his mock draft shared on Tuesday. "And I trust that offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will get him there."
