Patriots haven't made progress on new deal for WR Jakobi Meyers

With free agency looming, the New England Patriots and wideout Jakobi Meyers have yet to agree on a new deal, and the latest update on negotiations doesn't sound promising.

According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, the two sides have discussed a contract, but the talks haven't yielded "very much progress."

The 26-year-old has spent his entire four-year NFL career in New England, but that doesn't mean Meyers will take less to stay.

Per Mark Daniels of masslive.com, Meyers re-signing with the Patriots on a "team-friendly deal" was always a longshot. Daniels added that Meyers would like to return, but he won't be cheap.

In a slim free-agent market, Meyers will arguably be the best option available at wideout, along with Odell Beckham Jr. and Juju Smith-Schuster.

Last season, Meyers led the Patriots in receptions (67), receiving yards (804), and touchdowns (six).

Meyers got out to a slow but steady start with New England, recording 85 catches for 1,088 yards in his first two seasons. However, Meyers has come into his own over the last two campaigns. In 2021 and 2022 combined, Meyers posted 150 catches for 1,670 yards and eight touchdowns.

Despite being a standout at N.C. State, Meyers didn't hear his name called at the 2019 NFL Draft and instead signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent.

Four years of hard work later, Meyers is preparing to cash in, whether with New England or another team.
