Back in August, Bailey Zappe's career looked much different than it does today.

The New England Patriots made a surprising move as part of final roster cuts, choosing to waive Bailey Zappe. They re-signed him to the practice squad immediately after.

Fast-forward to December, Zappe is currently the starting quarterback for the Patriots and led them down the field for a game-winning drive on Christmas Eve against the Denver Broncos.

However, back in August, Zappe could never have predicted that this was the way the season was going to turn out. So in August, when he hit a low point in his career, Zappe reached out to a friend.

Former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner played in the league for 12 years, starting as an undrafted free agent in 1994. Following his career, he went into broadcasting and had the opportunity to call Sunday Night's game.

He even shared during the broadcast that Zappe sent him a text after he was cut in August asking one key question: Did you ever have moments of doubt that you belonged in the NFL?

After the game, the Patriots quarterback was asked about this conversation.

"That was right after I got cut, so that was, at that point in time, that was the worst thing that I've ever had happen to me in my football career. And me and him have built a relationship at the combine and everything, to where I texted him because I know he's been through a lot," Zappe said. "I just reached out to him. Picked his brain about it. And I was glad I had somebody like that outside, of course, my coaches who I go to, that I can pick their brain."

Zappe had a rough training camp that led to the Patriots' decision. And while it was a tough pill to swallow, he understood and remained determined to return to the team.

"I understand, back then, the decision that was made and I respect it," he added. "But of course if I had a time machine, I would go back and change everything, but you don't. And no we're here. So I'm going to be where my feet are and enjoy this win."

The quarterback revealed earlier this season that seven teams made offers to the young quarterback after he was waived, but he ultimately returned to Foxborough. And after everything that has happened this year, I'm sure it's a decision he doesn't regret.

One thing has become clear despite all the ups and downs for the quarterback this season: Bailey Zappe has made a name for himself.
