Patriots RB James White earns degree from University of Wisconsin knowing late father would be 'extremely proud'

New England Patriots running back James White graduated from the University of Wisconsin on Saturday, earning his degree in Life Sciences Communication.

White, who played for Wisconsin from 2010-13, said his parents stressed the importance of education, according to Mike Lucas of UWBadgers.com, and they asked him every offseason whether or not he was taking classes.

"They kept me motivated," White said. "My wife, Diana, kept me motivated as well to finish up … It was always at the forefront of my mind."

White's mother, Lisa, was seriously injured in a car accident in September but is reportedly "well on the road to recovery." White said she's not back to 100% but is progressing well. His father, Tyrone, died in the crash at age 59 and White said that he has kept his father in mind while finishing up his degree.

"I know he'd be extremely proud," he said.

The 29-year-old has spent his entire NFL career in New England, winning three Super Bowls. He recently re-signed with the Patriots on a one-year deal.
