Patriots release veteran LB Kyle Van Noy to clear cap space
The New England Patriots released outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy on Monday, ESPN's Field Yates reported.
As Yates explained, Van Noy is free to sign with a new team right away. Given his versatility and strong 2021 campaign, the 30-year-old OLB now has a bit of a jump-start to find a new team.
The move also frees up nearly $5 million cap space for New England ahead of the free-agent market opening up on March 14. Given the Patriots' depth at the linebacker position, parting ways with Van Noy makes sense.
Van Noy posted one interception along with two forced fumbles and 66 combined tackles for the Patriots in 2021.
