Former New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler was arrested earlier this month for driving under the influence of alcohol by North Providence police, WPRI reports

Police records show that he was arrested on March 16 and charged on March 21 with one count of driving under the influence of liquor. His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, March 28.

His white Mercedes Benz was stopped in the westbound lane of Mineral Spring Avenue at about 3:22 a.m., according to the police report. The car was said to be blocking traffic.

He told police that he was “coming from a studio in Providence where he was making music,” per WPRI.

“While speaking with Malcolm, I could detect a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath,” the police officer wrote in the official report. “He also had extremely slurred and delayed speech along with severely bloodshot watery eyes.”

Officers asked if he had been drinking alcohol, and according to the police he replied, "just take me to jail.”

Boston 25 added that Butler was asked to do some field sobriety tests, but he refused.

Butler announced his retirement from the NFL earlier this month, being best remembered for his miraculous goal-line interception of Russell Wilson in Super Bowl XLIX to give the Patriots the win.

All information regarding this incident was from WPRI and Boston 25's report.
