Patriots to honor three-time Super Bowl champion Julian Edelman Sunday
New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman retired this past spring a three-time Super Bowl champion and one of the most accomplished offensive players in the club's history.
The Patriots announced Tuesday that they will honor Edelman via a special halftime ceremony during this Sunday's home game against the New Orleans Saints.
Edelman called time on his playing career sitting second in Patriots history with 620 receptions, and he remains second only to Jerry Rice (151) in NFL history with 118 playoff catches. He was named the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl LIII after he recorded 10 receptions for 141 yards in the victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
Edelman entered the league when the Patriots drafted him in the seventh round back in 2009, and he played for only that organization through the 2020 season. In total, he appeared in 137 regular-season games and tallied 6,822 receiving yards with 36 receiving touchdowns. New England terminated his contract ahead of his retirement announcement in April.
The Patriots improved to 1-1 on the campaign via this past Sunday's win at the New York Jets.
