According to Tom Pelissero, the Patriots have waived QB/WR Malik Cunningham.

The undrafted rookie was promoted a couple of weeks ago and actually served as the backup quarterback for a game. But a bigger role didn’t materialize and it looks like New England is hoping to send him back to the practice squad.

Pelissero reports the Patriots also cut DE Trey Flowers, who was coming back from the PUP list.

Cunningham, 24, signed on with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Louisville following the 2023 NFL Draft.

He was among the team’s final roster cuts but was brought back to the practice squad shortly after.

During his college career, Cunningham played five seasons and threw for 9,660 yards to go with 70 touchdowns and 29 interceptions.

Flowers, 29, is a former fourth-round pick of the Patriots back in 2015. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2,838,932 contract with the Patriots in 2018 before agreeing to a five-year, $90 million contract with the Lions in 2019.

Flowers was set to make a base salary of $16 million in the final two years of the deal when the Lions released him. He caught on with the Dolphins in 2022.

In 2022, Flowers appeared in four games for the Dolphins and recorded four tackles.
