Pete Carroll, Bill Belichick to set record for oldest NFL head coaching matchup
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots certainly aren't strangers. Over five years after the fact, some still believe Carroll gifted Belichick and the Patriots a Super Bowl XLIX victory via what is widely regarded as one of the worst play calls ever made during an NFL game.
This coming Sunday night, though, the two will make history without a title on the line when, per Gil Brandt of NFL.com, they will set a new record for the league's oldest head coaching matchup:
Seattle began its 2020 season with a 38-25 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Meanwhile, the new-look Patriots that featured Cam Newton at quarterback instead of six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady defeated the Miami Dolphins 21-11 on Sunday.
Belichick's name landed in headlines late Tuesday evening when reports surfaced that his mother, Jeannette Belichick, died on Monday at the age of 98.
