Pete Carroll has a few safeties for his defense

The Seattle Seahawks landed a top free-agent safety this offseason for Pete Carroll’s defense in Julian Love. Love’s signing questioned what the team would do with All-Pro safety Jamal Adams this offseason. Adams has spent time on injured reserve the previous two seasons, and there’s been speculation the Seahawks could look to save cap space by releasing Adams this offseason. Signing Love would be a logical precursor to cutting Adams.

According to Brady Henderson with ESPN, Carroll said  at the League Annual Meeting he thinks Adams and Love will both be perfect fits in his three-safety defense along with Quandre Diggs:

“I know there’s some conversation that what we did with Julian, does that have some impact on Jamal or Quandre — it doesn’t. We have a clear thought of what we’re going to do with our guys and how we want to play them and we feel very fortunate to have all our guys.”

There’s still a long offseason to decide if the Seahawks intend to keep all three on the roster for next season or gain cap space for other areas. But Carroll’s comments indicate the Seahawks could have a scary secondary this fall.
