Pete Carroll: Reunion between Seahawks, Richard Sherman not imminent

Free-agent cornerback Richard Sherman wants to play at least two more seasons before retiring and he's had contract discussions with a few teams this offseason.

One of the teams he's talked with is the Seattle Seahawks, whom he played for from 2011-17. However, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said after the draft that nothing is imminent between the franchise and Sherman.

"That's not one of our thoughts right now that we're going out and getting another guy at that spot, but we're going to keep looking," Carroll said, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson. "We're not going to stop looking and we're going to compete. So in that sense, I leave everything open and that's just one of them."

Sherman spent the last three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. In an interview with ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, the 33-year-old said a return to the Bay Area isn't out of the question and listed the Seahawks, Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints as other teams he's had discussions with.

Sherman's tenure in Seattle ended after he suffered a torn Achilles in 2017 and was released with one year remaining on his deal. In seven seasons with the franchise, he made four Pro Bowls and was named a First Team All-Pro three times. He also helped the Seahawks win a Super Bowl in 2014.

If he returns to Seattle, he'll join a cornerback group that includes D.J. Reed, Tre Flowers, Damarious Randall and Pierre Desir.

It's unclear what kind of deal Sherman is looking for, but his age and injury history will likely make it difficult for him to land a better contract.
