Pete Carroll has made it clear that the decision to step down as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks was not his idea, so it is fair to wonder if he will pursue coaching opportunities elsewhere. The 72-year-old has not ruled it out.

Carroll was asked during a Friday appearance on Seattle Sports radio if he believes he will coach again. He said he is more than willing to but expressed skepticism that there will be an opportunity available.

“I don’t know. I’ve got plenty of energy for it and thought and willingness but I can’t imagine that there’s a place that’s the right one,” Carroll said. “I don’t know. I’m open to everything but I’m not holding my breath on that.”

The Seahawks announced on Wednesday that Carroll will be transitioning to a front-office role with the team. Carroll openly said he wanted to keep his job, even if he went along with what ownership felt was best.

There probably are not many NFL teams in the market for a 72-year-old head coach. Bill Belichick is 71, and he is expected to draw interest, but he's likely to be the exception to the rule.

It is not out of the question that an opportunity will come along for Carroll that sounds more appealing than serving as an advisor in Seattle, even if it is not an NFL head coaching gig.
