Peter King believes Seahawks QB Geno Smith has a case for MVP

After starting just five games over the last six years, quarterback Geno Smith has led the Seattle Seahawks to the best record in the NFC West (4-3) and seemingly resurrected a career that looked to be dead in the water after just two seasons.

And while the 32-year-old signal caller appears to be a lock to win NFL Comeback Player of the Year, Peter King of NBC Sports believes Smith has a legitimate case for league MVP.

“The story of the first two months of this season is the comeback story of all comeback stories,” King recently wrote. “Geno Smith is good. He’s really good. He’s the most accurate quarterback in football, he’s the third-highest rated quarterback in football, he’s in the top five in MVP consideration right now, and he’s got the Seattle Seahawks alone in first place in the NFC West. He’s also totally unsurprised.”

Smith ranks in the top 10 in several passing categories including leading the league in completion percentage (73.5) and ranking third in passer rating (107.7), third in percentage of on-target throws (80.4), sixth in touchdown passes (11), seventh in passing yards (1,712), and 14th in passing yards per game (244.6).

A former second-round pick of the New York Jets in 2013, Smith won just 12 of his 30 starts over four seasons in New York before brief stints with the New York Giants, Los Angeles Chargers, and Seahawks.

He attempted only 101 passes and threw for just 745 yards from 2015-2021 before landing with the Seahawks last year.
