PFF changes grade on Jets DT Quinnen Williams after backlash

The football analytics gurus at Pro Football Focus changed their Week 6 grade for Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams after heavy criticism from fans.

"We got it wrong. Simple as that," said Sam Monson, a longtime Pro Football Focus employee and co-host of "The PFF NFL Podcast."

Williams earned AFC Defensive Player of the Week after recording two sacks, a field goal block and one forced fumble against the Packers. However, he received an initial grade of 64.5, which is an average performance.

Added Monson: "After all the criticism, we went through and rechecked his grade, essentially, play by play, and we've moved it up to... 81."

The 16.5-point bump moved Williams' grade from just average to very good.

Many fans take the company's player grades as gospel.

In September on "New Heights," Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his brother, Eagles center Jason Kelce, raised concerns about PFF grades.

Whether the Kelces are right or not, PFF should consider more transparency about its grading process.
