It has been a tough year for Dan Moore Jr. on the Steelers offensive line. While he has kept his starting spot at left tackle while Broderick Jones took over at right tackle, Moore has struggled in pass protection all season. And now at the end of the regular season, Pro Football Focus has him as the worst pass-blocking offensive tackle in football for players who qualify.
He graded out at just 39.7 for the entire season, allowing eight sacks and 55 pressures overall. That was the second most pressure allowed, behind only Orlando Brown Jr. of the Bengals. Moore has consistently fallen flat in the passing game, but has become a net positive in the run game for the team, where he has consistently moved bodies.
The Steelers’ offensive line continues to be perhaps the most frustrating part of the team. They have three guys that you would generally consider as building blocks. For one, Isaac Seumalo and James Daniels played well. In addition, the team blocked their behinds off in the run game. The once burgeoning run game came alive again behind a plan highlighting their athleticism and physicality.
Moore has disastrous reps time and time again. He is a solid NFL swing tackle, but this is not a guy who should be starting 17 games a year for any serious NFL franchise. They need to go and dip into the pool to address this offensive line next season. His 2023 season sealed that fact, and Jones will likely return to left tackle.
That could put Moore at right tackle if they train him there, but they clearly do not feel all that comfortable with him playing at right tackle, given the moves they made to keep him at left tackle. So, that will be a key effort of his during the offseason to get down.
