PFF suggests Bengals should extend star WR next

The Bengals don't have too much to worry about these days. However, one of the problems that comes with having one of the NFL's best rosters is retaining your top players, which is exactly what Pro Football Focus believes they should do next.

PFF says Cincinnati should extend WR Tee Higgins after addressing "pretty much any remaining roster hole during the 2023 NFL Draft."

"With Tyler Boyd entering a contract year and Joe Mixon's deal up in 2024, Cincinnati can find a way to keep its three-headed offensive monster if the front office stays proactive and get Higgins done early, enabling them to spread out the cash and cap hits over the next several years," PFF writes.

Higgins is coming off back-to-back 1,000+ receiving yard seasons, with a skill set that could solidify him as the WR1 on a lot of other teams around the league.

The 24-year-old is entering the final year of his rookie deal and allowing a playmaker of Higgins's caliber to enter free agency is a dangerous move.

The Bengals' 2020 second-round pick is projected to receive a four-year, $80.59 million contract, but if Cincinnati lets him test the market, he will likely get more elsewhere.

The team has some tough choices to make soon as it must also pay QB Joe Burrow and fellow WR Ja'Marr Chase, but Director of Player Personnel Duke Tobin already told teams to not get their hopes up during the NFL Scouting Combine.

"I'm in the business of making the Cincinnati Bengals better," Tobin told reporters. "That's their problem. They want a receiver? Go find your own. In my opinion, Tee Higgins is a good piece for the Cincinnati Bengals."
