PFN ranks Steelers' Mike Tomlin third-best head coach in NFL

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin faces a unique challenge without retired future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on his roster for the first time. Tomlin, who has guided the Steelers to a pair of Super Bowl appearances — including a victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII — during his tenure, is on track to start free-agent acquisition Mitchell Trubisky at the sport's most important position over career backup Mason Rudolph and first-round draft pick Kenny Pickett.

Whether or not Trubisky has the goods to keep Pittsburgh a playoff team through January 2023 has yet to be determined, but at least one outlet seemingly likes Tomlin’s odds of returning to the postseason. As Andrew Wilbar explained for Behind the Steel Curtain, Pro Football Network recently ranked Tomlin as the NFL's third-best head coach for the 2022 campaign.

Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs topped the list, and New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick checked in at No. 2.

"While Mike Tomlin’s Steelers are seemingly going through a rebuilding process with Ben Roethlisberger retired, there’s plenty of reason for optimism entering the summer," the PFN story notes. "Tomlin has never had a losing season during his 15-year tenure in Pittsburgh. Coming off an early playoff exit last year, the Steelers have done a nice job in supplementing the roster for Tomlin’s continued track."

Tomlin holds an overall regular-season record of 154-85-2, good for a .643 winning percentage. Immediately beneath the 50-year-old on the PFN list are reigning Super Bowl champion Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh.
