Philadelphia Eagles name honorary captains for Giants game

The Eagles named three players from their Super Bowl LII championship team as honorary captains for the Giants game. With Malcolm Jenkins, Torrey Smith and Brent Celek on hand, Philadelphia hopes to party like it’s 2017.

Of the three, Jenkins is the most recognizable to NFL fans. He’s a two-time Super Bowl champion and three-time Pro Bowler. He’s also a contributor for CNN. He came to Philadelphia after five years with New Orleans and spent six years with the Eagles before returning to the Saints for two more years.

All of Jenkins Pro Bowls came while with Philadelphia.  The New Jersey native was the unquestioned leader of the team and a steady force for a secondary that struggled for years to replace Brian Dawkins.

Celek isn’t as well known, but nobody played more games as an Eagle than the franchise ironman. In 11 years, Celek played in 175 of a possible 176 games for Philadelphia and retired after the team’s Super Bowl victory. His 10 catches in the 2008 NFC championship remain a franchise record for tight ends and his various business interests have allowed him to remain in Philadelphia.

Smith wasn’t in the city very long. He played only one year with the team after four years in Baltimore and two with the 49ers. He had 49 catches for 587 yards as an Eagle, but five of those catches came in the Super Bowl. He finished his career with the Carolina Panthers in 2018 and now runs a charitable foundation in Baltimore.
