The Philadelphia Eagles were named by Pro Football Focus this week as the best fit for the top remaining NFL free agent.

PFF thinks the Eagles are the best fit for free agent safety Justin Simmons, who was released by the Denver Broncos earlier this offseason.

Simmons, who will turn 31 in November, is coming off his second Pro Bowl appearance in four seasons.

The former Boston College standout is also just a season removed from leading the NFL in interceptions.

From PFF: Simmons’ release from the Broncos may have been the biggest surprise of all notable players cut ahead of the offseason, even with the understanding that the safety market is routinely flooded with talent in free agency each offseason. Simmons’ 82.3 coverage grade over the past three seasons is a top-15 mark among safeties, his 14 interceptions lead the position and his 52 defensive stops are a top-30 mark.

The Eagles signed safety CJ Gardner-Johnson to a three-year deal earlier this offseason. But Gardner-Johnson hasn't played a full season in the NFL since his rookie year in 2019. Additionally, safety Sydney Brown, a third-round pick by the Eagles in the 2023 NFL Draft, tore his ACL in Week 18 last season after seeing significant action as a rookie (Brown made six starts).

Philly has around $36 million in cap space after the initial wave of free agency. If Simmons' price drops to a point that the Eagles are comfortable with, then they should absolutely consider adding the Pro Bowler to the roster.

Simmons, by the way, has missed just seven games since the end of the 2017 season.
