The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly planning to sign free agent tight end C.J. Uzomah to a one-year deal for the 2024 NFL season, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. Uzomah visited Philadelphia on Thursday, where he passed his physical.
The former fifth-rounder is moving onto his third team for his 10th season in the league. He is set to join fellow Philadelphia newcomers like Saquon Barkley and DeVante Parker on offense.
This season for the Jets, he played in 12 games, tallying eight receptions with 58 yards. He also scored one touchdown, which came in the three-point loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Releasing him into free agency cleared $5.3 million in cap space for the Jets.
Uzomah joined the Jets in 2022, signing a three-year deal for $24 million. The contract included a potential out for the team after the 2023 season. Last season, he played 15 games, posting 21 catches for 232 yards and two touchdowns.
Uzomah will turn 32 years old this season, which is his 10th in the league. The former fifth-round draft pick out of Auburn began his career with the Cincinnati Bengals. They took him with the No. 157 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft after he earned All-SEC second-team honors.
In 2021, the Bengals’ season ended with a trip to the Super Bowl. He finished that season with 493 yards on 49 catches with a career-high five touchdown receptions. The Bengals signed Uzomah to one new contract before letting him go in 2022. It was a three-year deal for $18.3 million in 2019.
Through his first nine seasons in the league, Uzomah has racked up 192 receptions, 1,881 yards and 16 touchdown catches. He’s also added 146 more receiving yards and another touchdown during postseason appearances, all with the Bengals.
