The Washington Commanders have signed Austin Ekeler to a new contract after playing six years for the Los Angeles Chargers. Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, a long-time fan of the commanders, dropped a short message in reaction to the team’s new signing.

The contract in question is worth $11.4 million and will lock the veteran running back for two years in Washington. It also has a $3 million signing bonus and a chance to give Ekeler another $1.5 million in incentives for the upcoming season.

Ekeler is projected as an ideal fit next to Brian Robinson, a runner who has posted 1,550 yards and seven touchdowns in the 27 career games he has played. Adding the former Chargers star will help improve the Commanders’ offense since the team has been horrible when it comes to the red zone.

While last season was considered a down year for Ekeler, a change of team might be what he needs to take another leap in his game. And like many of the Commanders’ fans out there, the Suns’ Kevin Durant is looking hyped up about his favorite NFL team’s new acquisition.

Phoenix Suns Star Kevin Durant Drops 4-Word Reaction On Washington Commanders’ Austin Ekeler Deal

Like many Washington fans, Durant has expressed his thoughts on the team signing Ekeler for next season. In a post the Suns’ star posted on X:

Durant hails from Washington and has been a fan of the Commanders. With the team languishing in the NFL’s bottom half, news of Ekeler’s acquisition will surely strengthen the franchise’s chances to becoming relevant later this year when the NFL opens again.

Whether Durant’s excitement will be justified or not is going to be known in the coming months. What’s certain, though, is that the Commanders are making the right moves to improve for the upcoming season.
